Jaren first gained notoriety during the Dark Age, when he organized and led a group of rogue Guardians and assassins opposed to the Warlords.

The group conducted a series of targeted operations against Warlord leadership. Multiple Warlords were subsequently eliminated, and Jaren's role in those operations established his reputation as an effective Lightbearer hunter and infiltrator.

During the City Age, Jaren took up residence in the Tower, where he served as a mentor to New Light Hunters and assisted in overseeing strike operations.

During the Hundred Years' Siege, his former fireteam was deployed to investigate a series of unexplained disturbances in the Old Chicago sector. Jaren remained in the Tower to oversee the operation. Contact with the fireteam was eventually lost. Without formal Vanguard authorization, Jaren departed the Tower and entered Old Chicago himself. What he found was a massacre. Every member of his fireteam had been slaughtered and drained of their Light. All except one. Nadiya was still alive when Jaren found her, though mortally wounded and Lightless. He remained with her until the end.

Following the incident, Jaren became a vocal advocate for restricting Guardian activity in Old Chicago and pushed the Vanguard to prohibit further expeditions into the region.

He currently serves as an operative of the Hidden, conducting classified Vanguard black operations.
