What this book is about
This Destiny 1 Grimoire page traces the history of the City, humanity's last refuge beneath the Traveler. It moves from the Golden Age, when the Traveler's arrival let humans live longer and reach further, through the Collapse and the Dark Age, to the City Age of walls, Guardians and the long climb back.
Alongside the overview entries, Ghost Fragments give you smaller, personal scenes. A father shows his child a preserved image of a dead world. Jaren Ward faces down Magistrate Loken and nine guns in the town of Palamon. A strange unfinished fresco produces visions in anyone who views it.
Later fragments look at the City's politics. The Consensus dismantles Lysander's Concordat and weighs which faction should take its place, and two Tex Mechanica foundry workers try to fix Crucible fights. The page closes with a journal from Lord Colovance, worried that his master's obsession with SIVA has gone too far.

The City
Every wayward soul unlucky enough to be born outside The City's protecting arms whispers its truth across the wastes: a metropolis, risen from the ashes of the Collapse, sheltered by the Traveler. It is a promise and a dream, the only refuge from the Darkness.
The City is a thriving walled ecumene, rich with the languages and traditions of every surviving human and neohuman culture. The City's population faces real challenges: inequality, fear, scarcity, and the specter of internal strife. But the great traditions of the Golden Age live on, and many classes of suffering and injustice have been eradicated forever.
