Introduction
Guardian,
There was a time when I believed our duty was simple. Hold the walls. Defend the City. Stand between humanity and whatever waited beyond the Light. I know better now. A City is not its walls. The Vanguard is not its commanders. And a Guardian is not measured only by the battles they survive.
I have watched generations of Guardians rise beneath the Traveler. Some became heroes whose names echoed through the Tower. Others passed through quietly, known only to the fireteams who stood beside them. Their deeds were no less important for being remembered by fewer people.
Every Ghost and every Guardian have a story to tell. Some are stories of triumph. Others of grief. These are all stories worth preserving.
While I now step down from my position of leadership, I'm left with a new task. Trusting those who stay after me to carry the Light farther than I ever could. If you are reading this, then the story continues without me at its center.
This is the way it was always meant to be.
The future belongs to you, it always has. Remember those who stood beside you and never forget those who did not make it home. Protect the city and her people and know how proud I am to have been part of your journey.
Per audacia ad astra Guardian,
Zavala
