The Dance
Balance is not stillness
"Life is this freefall you can't escape.
You can't stop it or slow it down.
So you may as well enjoy each day.
We don't know when we'll hit the ground."
I wrote that in a journal I found in my pocket. Must have kept it during... the before times, you could say.
It's how I got my name.
Most Guardians don't remember much about their lives before the Light raised them. But me? I think I remember too much.
There's comfort in knowing a little of where you came from, but it leaves you haunted by the past—the two dancing endlessly along the edge of a knife.
I guess that's why I'm a Hunter.
The balance of it all never gets easier. I try to find the steps to this spectral tune, to keep myself from tipping over the edge. My desire to dive fully into the present is always hindered by remembering.
Torn between the joy of being alive today and the despair of what is gone, I have to stay aware of which side I allow to lead the dance.
That is my power.
To hold the tension between great love and great sorrow... and not be lost to either.
Just call me a Bladedancer.
I've often wondered why the Light picked me.
Maybe it's less about being chosen and more about what I choose to do with the gift.
I'll do my best to make my fate with purpose.
