The IX and Other Realities

The Nine in Destiny: Rising

The Nine, written as the IX in Destiny: Rising, watch more than one reality. In the story they send Wolf prophecies, and the Season 3 preview talks about Kabr's fate "in another timeline".

They also shape some of the game's challenges. Rising's Crota's End raid on the Moon is framed as an illusory trial the Nine set, not the Hive god's real fortress, and the Realms of the IX host several of the game's challenge modes.

The game itself doesn't explain in the story why its timeline differs from the main one. Press coverage says the developers chose an alternate timeline so the new story wouldn't clash with existing lore.
