Marathon, 2026
Bungie's Marathon came out on March 5, 2026, for PlayStation 5, PC and Xbox Series X|S. It's set on Tau Ceti IV in 2893, 99 years after the 1994 original, where contact with the colony ship UESC Marathon was lost; mercenary Runners in cybernetic bodies work for corporations, and the rogue AI Durandal is at the center of it. Wikipedia calls it a soft reboot that continues the original series.
Bungie has kept it apart from Destiny. Its director said in 2025 that it isn't Destiny 3, and in September 2026 its creative director called a leak about the two games merging fake, describing them as sibling franchises.
Destiny 2 marked it with cosmetics: the Destination: Tau Ceti emblem from a 2025 Twitch drop, a free Runner Kit in January 2026 and a pre-order Marathon Pack with a UESC Ghost shell, ship and sparrow. The Ghost shell's lore is a corrupted message from a newly self-aware voice, which fans read as Durandal; Bungie hasn't said.
